Biography of Desmond Alvares

Desmond Alvares is founder and Lead ORBIT Developer of Operational Risk Business Intelligence Tools. He specializes in consulting and training in business intelligence, process improvement, risk management, strategic planning and project governance and is an Instructor at Ryerson University on the Project Management Certificate Program. In addition to being a Certified Management Accountant, he is a Chartered IT Professional with the British Commuter Society (BCS).

Desmond has an MBA with a focus on Finance, Accounting and Strategy as well as a B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to reentering consulting in 2001, he held Management positions with Canadian and International Banks. He has worked with Financial Service, Legal, Food and Beverage and Energy Resource companies to develop their Financial Systems and enhance their operations.

Desmond is current serving on the board of the Upper Canada Section of the BCS as Professional Development Officer, the Knight of Columbus (Council 13345 as Financial Secretary), Schulich Alumni Association and Ontario Special Olympics as Head Coach coordinator. He has helped his profession and is asked to conduct talks promoting the benefits of Mentorship Programs, Project Management and Contract Management.

In the UK Desmond competed in sailing and running for his local district at a National Level. He was also on the board of the Europe’s second largest purpose built housing co-op.
