Commentary / BCS in Upper Canada 4th annual Chinese New Year celebration
BCS in Upper Canada held its 4th annual celebration in honor of Chinese New Year on February 20th, 2007 in Markham. This year’s banquet was hosted by George Mok, honorary Member of the "Upper Canada" committee in conjunction with other British Engineering Institutions, as part of the Energy series of talks and took place in fabulous Empire Legendary Oriental Cuisine with 35 people in attendance.



Desmond Alvares and Jaswant Bangaru organized the presentation of Scott Eidt, Peng who spoke about the challenges between Wind Energy Plants and standard Power Plants. Based on more than 32 years of his experience in the design, project management and construction of electrical power and industrial projects in Canada and overseas, Scott provided the overview of many projects underway in Ontario and described the challenges to implement such projects. Guests enjoyed the twelve course meal, including deep fried duck and Mango pudding.

The 15-day celebration of Chinese New Year began on February 18th, 2007. There are twelve years in the Chinese lunar calendar each named after a different animal. This year marks the Year of the Pig, a highly regarded animal that is strong, straightforward and peace loving.



Lecture
The Energy series of talks is the 3rd series that have been co-hosted by the BCS in Upper Canada and the other British Engineering institutions – followed by the successful Nano Technology and Lessons Learned in Project Management Series.

Talks are hosted by alternating societies from September to May of each year with the next one being "Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction - How will this affect us?" presentation hosted by IMech Engineers on March 23, 2007and will be at the same day as their AGM.
