News / Explore the Power of the Wind in the Year of the Pig [Boar] (Ding Hai)
The British Computer Society in Upper Canada (BCS in UC) proudly celebrates the "Year of the Pig [Boar]" or DingHai on February 20, 2007.
This has became a remarkable tradition for the BCS in UC section, one of a growing number of overseas sections of the British Computer Society (BCS), the leading worldwide professional and learned Society in the field of computers and information systems.

BCS in UC Section was formed in 2003 to meet the needs of BCS members in Southern Ontario. Founding members live in Hamilton, Waterloo, Brampton, Oakville, Toronto, Markham and Newmarket. BCS in UC Section aims to support IT professionalism and promote the BCS, and its qualifications as a Chartered Engineering body.

Canada is a destination of choice for many people around the world. New arrivals may find it difficult to complete their professional designations in the IT industry, or to maintain it. To help with this, BCS in UC surveyed its member's development needs and provides networking opportunities for dedicated professionals, through regular meetings, committee work, and mentoring within BCS, and by extension through work with various organizations and companies.

This Chinese New Year celebration is hosted by George Mok in conjunction with other British Engineering Institutions and features a presentation of the challenges between Wind Energy Plants and standard Power Plants, as part of the 3rd joint lecture series. Desmond Alvares and Jaswant Bangaru organized the presentation of Scott Eidt, PEng who has more than 32 years of experience, in the design, project management and construction of electrical power and industrial projects in Canada and overseas. The speaker will tell what it takes to start a wind power project, the various projects underway in Ontario. He will also describe the challenges of completing such a project, compared to other types of electricity generating plants.

The Banquet will take place in fabulous Empire Legendary Oriental Cuisine at Victoria Park / Steels and this also will be an exceptional networking opportunity, the place where people come to share their views on past and future development of IT professionalism in Canada.
